Q:What sets laminated flooring apart from hardwood flooring?
A: Both laminate and hardwood flooring can significantly elevate the aesthetic of your home. While hardwood is often seen as a premium choice, laminate flooring offers its own set of advantages. Hardwood, typically ranging from 3/8" to 3/4" thick, should only be installed above grade. On the other hand, laminate flooring can be installed both above and below grade, accommodating nearly any existing surface. Engineered hardwood comprises multiple wood layers topped with a hardwood veneer, while laminate flooring, usually 7mm to 8mm thick, is built with multiple layers for enhanced stability and strength. The top layer of laminate features high-quality photographic representations that closely mimic real hardwood. Although hardwood is traditionally preferred, laminate flooring is a durable, long-lasting, and cost-effective alternative that is gaining widespread popularity.
Q: Where is it suitable to install laminated flooring?
A: Laminate flooring is an incredibly versatile option, suitable for nearly any room in your home, whether above or below ground, and over wood or concrete. However, it is not ideal for moist environments such as bathrooms, washrooms, saunas, enclosed porches, or verandas, nor in areas requiring wet-mopping. Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause the laminate core to warp or swell. In specific cases, with proper installation techniques, laminate flooring can be used in bathrooms where water does not linger on the surface for extended periods. For bathroom installations, it is advisable to apply a light bead of glue to the tongue of the planks in areas prone to spills and promptly clean and dry any spills to prevent damage.
