Q:What sets laminated flooring apart from hardwood flooring?
A: Both laminate and hardwood flooring can elevate the aesthetics of any home. While hardwood is often viewed as the premium choice, laminate flooring offers numerous benefits. Hardwood, with a thickness ranging from 3/8" to 3/4", is designed for above-grade installation only. In contrast, laminate flooring is versatile, suitable for both above- and below-grade installations over various surfaces. Engineered hardwood consists of multiple wood layers topped with a hardwood veneer, while laminate, typically 7mm to 8mm thick, is composed of several layers for added stability and strength. Its top layer showcases a high-quality photographic representation that closely mimics the look of real hardwood. Despite hardwood's popularity, laminate flooring is a durable, long-lasting, and cost-effective alternative that is gaining widespread appeal.
Q: Where is it suitable to install laminated flooring?
A: Laminate flooring is highly versatile, making it suitable for almost any room in your home, whether above or below ground and over wood or concrete substrates. However, it is not recommended for areas prone to high moisture, such as bathrooms, washrooms, saunas, enclosed porches, or verandas, and places requiring wet-mopping. Excessive moisture can cause the laminate core to warp or swell. That said, with specific installation techniques, laminate can sometimes be installed in bathrooms where water does not remain on the surface for extended periods. In such cases, a light bead of glue should be applied to the tongue of the planks in spill-prone areas, and any spills should be promptly mopped up and dried.
