Q:What sets laminated flooring apart from hardwood flooring?
A: Both laminate and hardwood flooring can elevate the aesthetic of a home. Although hardwood is often considered a superior choice, laminate flooring offers several compelling advantages. The distinct differences between these two types of flooring can make laminate a more appealing option. Solid hardwood, typically ranging from 3/8" to 3/4" thick, should only be installed above grade. By contrast, laminate flooring can be laid above or below grade, and over nearly any other flooring surface. Some hardwood flooring is engineered, featuring multiple wood layers topped with a hardwood veneer. Laminate flooring, generally 7mm to 8mm (5/16" to 3/8"), also comprises multiple layers bonded together for stability and strength. The top layer of laminate is a photographic representation of hardwood, with high-quality photos accurately replicating the grain and color of natural wood. Quality laminate flooring closely mimics real wood surfaces. While many still prefer hardwood, laminates are a durable, long-lasting, and affordable choice that is rapidly gaining popularity.

Q: Where is it suitable to install laminated flooring?
A: Laminate flooring is an incredibly versatile solution suitable for almost any room in your home, whether above or below ground and over wood or concrete. There are, however, certain locations where laminate is not advisable. Given that laminate is a wood product, it is not recommended for moist environments like bathrooms, washrooms, saunas, enclosed porches, or verandas, nor in areas that require wet-mopping. Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause the laminate core to warp or swell. In some cases, with specific installation techniques, laminate flooring can be installed in bathrooms where water does not remain on the surface for prolonged periods. For bathroom installations, it's advisable to apply a light bead of glue to the tongue of the planks in areas prone to spills, and promptly mop up and dry any spills.
